I’m modding GTA 5 every day in a quest to either transform it into a PC version of GTA 6 or break it entirely. Come back tomorrow to find out what new horrible thing I’ve done to Rockstar’s baby, or check out what I got up to earlier.
You ever think about how weird cars are, as a concept? It’s like sharing public space with enormous bullets piloted by random members of the public. If our car-centric urban world did not exist and you tried to pitch it, whole-cloth, you’d probably be laughed out of the room. You want to give people their own ballistic missiles, are you mad?
This is what I thought as I pulled the trigger on a pump-action shotgun and sent a mid-size family sedan careening into the side of a police helicopter.
Today’s GTA 5 modβinstalled in an attempt to either turn the game into a PC version of GTA 6 or break it entirelyβis Vehicle Cannon, which turns whatever gun you are wielding into a horrible nozzle of limitless automobiles. In place of bullets, guns now emit vehicles at speed, bringing great devastation to the land and possibly crashing your PC.

Combined with a mod menu that I forget the provenance of, which lets me float from location to location like a militarised Christmas spirit, it makes you, more or less, god. There’s probably a part in the Bible where god shoots cars at people. I don’t know.
I’ll be honest, I’m still working on justifying how this will make GTA 5 more like GTA 6.
But you gotta give me this: it’s very fun. The unparalleled chaos of launching a freeway’s-worth of cars into the streets of Los Santos is tremendous. It also makes you something like a single-person artillery unit wreaking havoc on your foes at great distance. It makes me a little nostalgic for the days when Rockstar leant deeper into the potential for havoc that its open worlds embodied. Alas, now its protagonists are all egos and emotions.
