1972 – 1981 Autobello Aria
Small car. Great innovations.

First showcased in 1971, the Aria was created as a replacement for the well-proven, but aging Piccolina. The car featured an innovative hatchback chassis, with a large tailgate in place of a bootlid, and a state-of-the-art drivetrain, where the engine, mounted transverse in front of the car, powered the front wheels via an end-on gearbox.

With its wide range of powerplants and trims, from a basic 1.0L Standard model to a sporty 1.5L twincam Corse version, the car instantly captured the supermini market. Although less known today, it has since cemented its place in automotive history as the template for modern superminis and a pioneer of the car industry – much like its predecessor.
